Safe Shopping: Avoiding Black Friday & Cyber Monday E-Commerce Scams
The holiday shopping rush is officially here, and while hunting down the best Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals across New York is half the fun, cybercriminals are also eager to cash in. Scam artists love this time of year, using fake online storefronts, lookalike web addresses, and convincing phishing texts to snag your hard-earned dollars. At FASNY Federal Credit Union, we want your holiday season to be bright, joyful, and completely secure. Before you start adding items to your digital cart, take a moment to make sure your financial safety stays front and center.
Navigating holiday e-commerce safely does not mean skipping out on the savings; it just requires a quick spot-check before you hit checkout. Scammers rely on urgency and high-pressure tactics to trick sharp shoppers into making hasty decisions. Protecting your account is easy when you make these habits part of your routine:
Verify the Vendor: Double-check website URLs for subtle typos or unusual domain extensions, and avoid buying from unverified sellers advertised on social media.
Pay with Credit, Not Debit: Credit cards offer stronger fraud liability protection and keep your primary checking account safely isolated from potential bad actors.
Beware Fake Tracking Alerts: Fraudsters frequently send bogus shipping notification texts or emails asking for personal information or payment to redeliver a package.
Enable Real-Time Card Alerts: Set up instant transaction notifications through your FASNY FCU mobile banking app to spot and report unauthorized charges immediately.
Your peace of mind is the greatest gift you can give yourself this shopping season. By staying vigilant and leveraging FASNY FCU’s secure banking tools, you can bag the best holiday bargains without the cybersecurity headache. If you ever suspect suspicious activity on your FASNY FCU card or account, reach out to our team right away so we can help keep your finances protected. Happy deal-hunting!
